(1724.) David Vaughan (Jr.), eldest son of (512) Phebe5 Washburn, (135) Ephraim4, (59) Joseph3, (43) John2 (5th), (28) John1 (4th); born in Middleborough, MA, on 11 Nov. 1763,[1] married 1.) Huldah Atwood, of Plympton, probably daughter of Nathaniel and Susanna (Shurtleff) Atwood (Jr.), of Plympton,[2] in ca. 1786.[3] She was born on 26 Feb. 1762 in Plympton,[4] a granddaughter probably of Lt. Nathaniel and Mary (Adams) Atwood.[5] She died on 14 Oct. 1800 in Middleborough, aged 38 years,[6] and he remarried to 2.) Phebe Aldrich, of Bridgewater, on 15 July 1802 in Middlebor­ough.[7] She was born ca. 1764,[8] and died on 4 Nov. 1806 in Middleborough, aged 42 years.[9] He remarried again to 3.) Elizabeth (Atwood) Thomas, of Carver, widow of Eli Thomas,[10] on 7 Sept. 1809 in Carver.[11] David Vaughan, Jr., was living in Middleborough, MA, in the 1790 federal census, next door to Thomas Washburn, Samuel Benson, and Manassah Washburn.[12]

            David Vaughan (Jr.) presumably died in Middleborough,[13] but no death or probate records were found for him, and no death record was found for Elizabeth Vaughan in Middleborough. They may have been the David Vaughan who died on 18 Oct. 1816 in Carver,[14] and the Elizabeth Vaughan who died on 15 June 1820 in Carver.[15]

            David Vaughan (Jr.) had children by Huldah Atwood:

        4242     i   Phebe Vaughan, born on 1 July 1787 in Middleborough,[16] married Joseph Bump (3rd), son of Joseph and Abiah (Leonard) Bump (Jr.), of Middleborough, on 14 Mar. 1811 in Middleborough.[17] He was born on 2 July 1786 in Middleborough. She died on 10 Sept. 1849 in Middleborough, aged 62 years,[18] and he was living in Middleborough in the 1850 federal census,[19] and in the 1855 state cen­sus, where he was a farm­er.[20] He died on 29 Mar. 1860 in Middleborough, aged 73 years, 8 months.[21]

        4243    ii   Elias Vaughan, born on 28 Oct. 1789 in Middleborough,[22] marriage not found. He was not found in the 1850 federal census in Massachusetts.

        4244   iii   Zenas Vaughan, born on 4 Feb. 1792 in Middleborough,[23] marriage not found. He was not found in the 1850 federal census in New England.

        4245   iv   David Vaughan (3rd), born on 18 July 1794 in Middleborough,[24] died in 1813 in the Army, unmarried.[25]

        4246    v   Huldah A. Vaughan, born on 15 Dec. 1797 in Middleborough,[26] married 1.) Seabury Perkins, son of Gideon and Meribah5 (Eaton) (Murdock) Perkins,[27] on 22 Sept. 1816 in Middleborough.[28] He was born on 23 June 1792 in Carver,[29] and died intestate in 1819 in Middleborough.[30] She remarried to 2.) (3294) Capt. Linus7 Washburn, son of (1346) Benjamin6 and Alice (Shaw) Washburn, of Middleborough, as his fourth wife, on 30 Oct. 1825 in Middleborough.[31] He was born on 15 Apr. 1784 in Middleborough.[32] She died in Jan. 1852 in Middleborough,[33] and he remarried to Hannah (Leonard) Caswell, daughter of Andrew Leonard, of Middleborough,[34] and probably widow of Alvan Caswell, of Taunton,[35] on 3 Dec. 1853 in Lakeville, MA.[36] She was born ca. 1816 in Middleborough,[37] and died on 15 Sept. 1856 in Middleborough, aged 40 years.[38] He died testate on 23 Oct. 1857 in Lakeville, MA, aged 73 years, 6 months, 8 days, of “erysipelas,”[39] his will probated on 27 Oct. 1857.[40] Huldah A. Vaughan had a son by Seabury Perkins, and 2 more children by Capt. Linus Washburn:

a. Seabury Perkins (Jr.), born on 2 Apr. 1819 in Middleborough,[41] marriage not found. He was not found in the 1850 federal census in Massachusetts.

        4246a  vi   (Unnamed child), born on 14 Oct. 1800,[42] died on 31 Oct. 1800 in Middleborough, aged 17 days, of a “sore mouth.”[43]

        4246b vii   (Unnamed child), born ca. Apr. 1805,[44] died on 20 Oct. 1806 in Middleborough, of dys­entery, aged 1 year, 6 months.[45]

 

 

(1725.) Olive Vaughan, only daughter of (512) Phebe5 Washburn, (135) Ephraim4, (59) Joseph3, (43) John2 (5th), (28) John1 (4th); born in Middleborough, MA, on 5 Dec. 1765,[46] married Isaac Rider (Jr.), son of Isaac and Bridget (Nash) Rider, of Middle­borough,[47] on 13 June 1785 in Middleborough.[48] He was born on 27 May 1763 in Middleborough,[49] a grandson of Josiah and Experience Rider, of Plymouth.[50] They were living in Middleborough, MA, in the 1790 federal census, near her father, David Vaughan,[51] and in the 1800 federal census,[52] and they moved to Pelham, Hampshire Co., MA, before 1806. They were living in Pelham, Hampshire Co., MA, in the 1810 federal census.[53] He probably died by 1820, and she was probably living with her son John Rider in Pelham, MA, in the 1820 federal census.

            Olive Vaughan and Isaac Rider (Jr.) had children:

        4247     i   Phebe Rider, born on 5 Jan. 1786 in Middleborough.[54]

        4248    ii   Olive Rider, born on 12 Dec. 1787 in Middleborough,[55] married Barzillia Packard in 1807 in Pelham, MA.[56] They were not found in the 1850 federal census. She died on 24 Apr. 1857 in Enfield, MA, aged 69 years, of “fever.”[57]

        4248a  iii   Isaac Rider (3rd), born on 1 Nov. ca. 1789 in Middleborough,[58] died on 5 Jan. 1811 in Pelham, MA,[59] but his burial location is unknown.

        4249   iv   Giles Rider, born on 3 Feb. 1792 in Middleborough,[60] married 1.) Alsey Brown in 1815 in Pelham.[61] She died by 1822, and he remarried to 2.) Lucy Wood on 16 Apr. 1822 in Pelham,[62] and Hannah Cook, daughter of Adams Cook, in 1830 in Pelham.[63] They were living in Pelham, Hampshire Co., MA, in the 1830,[64] 1840,[65] and 1850 federal censuses,[66] where he was a laborer. He died on 19 June 1858 in Pelham, MA, aged 68 [sic] years, of “dropsey,”[67] and she died on 19 Aug. 1860 in Pelham, aged 56 years, 2 months, 11 days, of “dropsy.”[68]

        4250    v   John Rider, born on 6 Dec. 1793 in Middleborough,[69] married Rebecca Woods, daughter of Ichabod and Lucy Woods,[70] on 10 Nov. 1819 in Pelham, MA.[71] She was born ca. 1801 in Enfield, MA.[72] They were living in Pelham, Hampshire Co., MA, in the 1820 federal census, where he was a farmer,[73] and the 1830 federal census.[74] He died on 20 Aug. 1839 in Pelham, MA.[75] She was still living in Pelham, MA, in the 1840,[76] and 1850 federal censuses, next door to her parents.[77] She died on 7 July 1851 in Pelham, aged 50 years, of “fever.”[78] They had children:

a. Isaac Rider, born on 20 Nov. 1820 in Pelham, MA.[79]

b. John Rider Jr., born on 31 Oct. 1822 in Pelham,[80] married Relief Rhodes on 17 Dec. 1846 in Pelham.[81] They were living next door to his widowed mother in Pelham, MA, in the 1850 federal census, where he was a farmer.[82]

c. Betsy Wood Rider, born on 10 Sept. 1828 in Pelham,[83] was still unmarried and living with her widowed mother in Pelham, MA, in the 1850 federal census.

d. Lucinda Rider, born on 20 Mar. 1833 in Pelham.[84]

e. Marshal Rider, a twin, born on 22 Oct. 1835 in Pelham.[85]

f. Martha Rider, a twin, born on 22 Oct. 1835 in Pelham.[86]

g. Nehemiah Rider, born on 28 Oct. 1835 [sic] in Pelham,[87] probably died young.

        4251   vi   Ruth Rider, born on 26 Jan. 1796 in Middleborough,[88] married Elihu White, son of Moses and Chloe White, of Hadley, MA.[89] He died on 5 Sept. 1850 in Hadley, MA, aged 55 years, of “congestion of the brain,”[90] and she died a widow on 7 Aug. 1883 in Hadley, Hampshire Co., MA, aged 86 years, 6 days, of “old age & congestion.”[91]

        4252  vii   Lucy Rider, born on 21 Mar. 1798 in Middleborough,[92] married Ichabod Wood Jr. in 1816 in Pelham, MA.[93] She supposedly died on 19 Apr. 1874 in Enfield, Hampshire Co., MA.

        4253 viii   Josiah Rider, born on 7 Jan. 1803 in Middleborough,[94] died on 14 Mar. 1834 in Enfield, MA.[95]

        4254   ix   Nancy Rider, born on 19 Dec. 1806 in Pelham, MA,[96] married Benjamin Gardner, of Enfield, MA, on 29 Sept. 1828 in Pelham.[97] They were living in Enfield, Hampshire Co., MA, in the 1850 federal census, where he was a merchant.[98]

(1726.) Ephraim W. Vaughan, second son of (512) Phebe5 Washburn, (135) Ephraim4, (59) Joseph3, (43) John2 (5th), (28) John1 (4th); born in Middleborough, MA, on 19 Dec. 1769,[100] married Lucy6 Bryant, daughter of Caleb5 and Hannah (Ellis) Bryant, on 28 July 1791 in Middleborough.[101] She was born ca. 1772,[102] a granddaughter of John4 and Abigail (Chur­chill) Bryant, and they moved to Windsor, Berkshire Co., MA.

            Lucy (Bryant) Vaughan died on 13 Feb. 1839 in Windsor, MA, aged 66 years, of “tick doleureu.”[103] Ephraim W. Vaughan supposedly died in Apr. 1855 in Windsor, MA, aged 84 years.

            Ephraim W. Vaughan and Lucy Bryant had one daughter:

        4255     i   Hannah Vaughan, born on 22 Oct. 1791 in Middleborough,[104] married James Sparrow, son of Col. Edward and Rhoda (Bump) Sparrow, of Middleborough, on 19 July 1814 in Middleborough.[105] He was born on 6 July 1789 in Middleborough.[106] He was appointed as administrator of the estate of her uncle, Levi Vaughan, on 21 July 1823.[107] They were living in Middleborough in the 1850 federal census, where he was a carpenter,[108] and in the 1855[109] and 1865 state censuses,[110] where he was a farmer and carpenter. He died on 21 May 1871 in Middleborough, aged 81 years, 10 months, 15 days,[111] but no probate records were found for him in Plymouth County. They had children:

a. Jerusha Bradford Sparrow, born on 1 Jan. 1815 in Middleborough,[112] married Ivory Hovey Thompson on 3 Dec. 1835 in Middleborough.[113] They were living in Middleborough in the 1850 federal census, where he was a merchant,[114] and the 1855,[115] and 1865 state censuses,[116] where he was a farmer.

b. James Philip Sparrow, born on 10 Oct. 1824 in Middleborough,[117] married Persis Lavinia (___), who was born ca. 1825 in MA,[118] in ca. 1846.[119] They were living in Middleborough with or next door to his parents in the 1850 federal census, and the 1855,[120] and 1865 state censuses, where he was a shoemaker and carpenter.

c. Martha Hannah Hathaway Sparrow, born on 15 June 1832 in Middleborough,[121] was still unmarried and living with her parents in the 1855 state census, but probably married before 1865.

 

 

(1727.) John Vaughan, third son of (512) Phebe5 Washburn, (135) Ephraim4, (59) Joseph3, (43) John2 (5th), (28) John1 (4th); born in Middleborough, MA, on 14 Nov. 1774,[122] married Sarah7 “Sal­ly” Cushman, daughter of Joseph6 and Elizabeth4 (Sampson) Cushman,[123] of Duxbury, on 27 Nov. 1800 in Middleborough.[124] She was born on 11 July 1778, baptized on 6 Sept. 1778 in Duxbury,[125] a grand­daugh­ter of Joshua5 and Mary (Soule) Cushman, and of George3 and Hannah (Soule) Sampson (Jr.) He died intest­ate on 15 Aug. 1821 in Middleborough,[126] and his widow, Sarah, was granted administration of his estate on 17 Dec. 1821.[127] She died a widow on 11 Apr. 1861 in Middleborough, aged 82 years, 9 months.[128]

            John Vaughan and Sarah Cushman had children:

        4256     i   Elizabeth Vaughan, born on 9 Feb. 1802 in Middleborough,[129] married Daniel Savery Jr., son of Daniel and Huldah (Soule) Savery, of Middleborough,[130] on 19 Sept. 1824 in Middleborough.[131] He was born on 22 Jan. 1797 in Middleborough.[132] She died, however, on 13 Nov. 1825 in Middleborough, aged 23 years,[133] and he remarried to Lydia Morton, of Middleborough, on 9 Jan. 1832 in Middleborough.[134] She died on 19 July 1845 in Middleborough,[135] and he died on 22 Feb. 1859 in Plymouth, MA, aged 64 years.[136]

        4257    ii   Lucy Vaughan, born on 12 May 1804 in Middleborough,[137] married Ebenezer “Eber” Beals, son of Solomon and (2628) Polly (Kingman) Beals (Jr.), of Middleborough,[138] as his second wife, on 29 Nov. 1827 in Middleborough.[139] He was a twin, born on 31 Mar. 1799 in Middleborough,[140] a grandson of Abner and (957) Susanna (Leonard) Kingman.[141] She died on 6 Aug. 1872 in Middleborough, aged 62 [sic] years, 8 months.[142]
