(1729.) Ephraim Randall, eldest son of (513) Jemima5 Washburn, (135) Ephraim4, (59) Joseph3, (43) John2 (5th), (28) John1 (4th); born in Jan. 1766,[1] baptized in Pembroke, MA, on 11 June 1780,[2] married Mercy Phillips, of Marshfield, on 12 Feb. 1792 in Marshfield.[3] He was not a head of household in Plymouth Co., MA, in the 1790 federal census.

            Ephraim Randall died testate in 1799 in Pembroke, his will dated 4 Sept. 1799, and probated on 2 Dec. 1799, mentioned his wife Mercy Randall, daughter Mercy Randall, and two sons Ephraim and Elisha Randall, and he named his wife Mercy Randal, and brother-in-law, Elisha Phillips, as executors of his estate.[4] (See Appendix [A] for a full transcription of his will.) His widow, Mercy Randall, of Pembroke, was appointed as guardian of their children Mercy Randall, Ephraim Randall, and Elisha Randall, in 1803. She died a widow on 11 June 1843 in Pembroke,[5] but their burial location is unknown.

            Ephraim Randall and Mercy Phillips had children:

        4262     i   Mercy Randall, born on 9 Sept. 1793 in Pembroke,[6] named in her father’s 1799 will, her mother, Mercy Randall, was appointed as her guardian on 7 Mar. 1803,[7] and she married Joseph Northey, of Scituate, MA, as his second wife, on 23 June 1835 in Pembroke.[8] He was born ca. 1794 in MA.[9] They were living in Scituate, MA, in the 1850,[10] 1860,[11] and 1870 federal censuses,[12] where he was a farmer. She died on 5 Feb. 1877 in Scituate, MA, aged 83 years, 4 months, of “old age,”[13] and he died a widower on 6 Apr. 1883 in Scituate, aged 88 years, 11 months, of “old age,”[14] but their burial location is unknown. Mercy (Randall) Northey probably had no children.

        4263    ii   Ephraim Randall (Jr.), born on 2 Jan. 1796 in Pembroke,[15] named in his father’s 1799 will, his mother, Mercy Randall, was appointed as his guardian on 7 Mar. 1803,[16] and he married 1.) Lydia Hatch, daughter of Seth and Olive (Decrow) Hatch (Jr.), of Pembroke, on 11 Oct. 1835 in Pembroke.[17] She was born on 23 Aug. 1812 in Pembroke,[18] and died on 4 Sept. 1848 in Pembroke, aged 36 years,[19] and was buried in Two Mile Cemetery in Pembroke, MA. He remarried to 2.) Emily (Bearce) Jordan, daughter of Deacon Jacob and Chloe Bearce, and widow of Joseph Jordan, of Hanson, MA, in 1850.[20] She was born on 10 Aug. 1806 in Pembroke.[21] He was not found in Plymouth Co., MA, in the 1850 federal census,[22] but he was living in Pembroke, MA, in the 1855 state census,[23] and the 1860 federal census,[24] where he was a farmer. She died on 8 Jan. 1864 in Pembroke, MA, aged 57 years, 4 months, 8 days, of “phthisis.”[25] He was still living in Pembroke in the 1865 state census,[26] and with the family of his daughter and son-in-law, Anson and Joann Hatch, in Pembroke, in the 1870 federal census.[27] He died a widower on 2 Mar. 1871 in Pembroke, MA, aged 75 years, 2 months, of “paralysis old age,”[28] but his burial location is unknown. Ephraim Randall (Jr.), had five daughters by Lydia Hatch:

a. Lydia Hatch Randall, born on 6 July 1837 in Pembroke,[29] died on 27 Sept. 1858 in Pembroke, aged 21 years, 2 months, 21 days, of “phthisis,”[30] but her burial location is unknown.

b. Mercy Ann Randall, born on 12 May 1838 in Pembroke, was a servant living with her aunt and uncle, Joseph and Mercy Northey, in Scituate, MA, in the 1860 federal census,[31] married David Sanford Jenkins Jr., son of David Sanford and Eliza Cushing (Jenkins) Jenkins, of Scituate,[32] on 2 Mar. 1865 in Scituate.[33] He was born on 5 Oct. 1834 in Scituate.[34] They were living in Scituate, MA, in the 1870 federal census, where he was a miller and farmer,[35] and the 1880 federal census, with his widowed mother, where he was a farmer.[36] She died on 27 Dec. 1890 in Scituate, MA, aged 52 years, 7 months, of “typhoid pneumonia,”[37] and he died on 11 Mar. 1898 in Scituate, aged 64 years, of “disease of heart,”[38] but their burial location is unknown.

c. Emeline Randall, born in Aug. 1839 in Pembroke,[39] died on 22 Jan. 1858 in Pembroke, aged 18 years, 6 months, 22 days, of “phthisis,”[40] but her burial location is unknown.

d. Julia Frances Randall, born on 4 Feb. 1842 in Pembroke,[41] was still unmarried and living with her widowed father in Pembroke in the 1865 state census,[42] married Augustus Turner, son of Barker and Sophia (Baker) Turner Jr.,[43] on 28 Apr. 1867 in Pembroke, MA.[44] He was born on 7 Nov. 1839 in Pembroke.[45] She died on 27 Feb. 1869 in Pembroke, aged 37 years, 23 days, of “phthisis,”[46] and he was living with his parents in Pembroke, MA, in the 1870 federal census, a housewright.[47] He remarried to Mary Frances Phipps, daughter of Aaron Bidwell and Mary Elisabeth (Hall) Phipps, of Pembroke,[48] on 25 Dec. 1771 in Pembroke.[49] She was born on 8 Aug. 1854 in Pembroke.[50] They were living in Pembroke in the 1880 federal census. He died on 9 Feb. 1897 in Pembroke, aged 57 years, 3 months, 2 days, of “typhoid influenza,”[51] and Mary Frances (Phipps) Turner died on 4 Aug. 1930 in Pembroke, aged 75 years,[52] and they were both buried in Paul Magoun Cemetery in Pembroke, MA.

e. Joanna/Johanna Randall, born on 25 May 1844 in Pembroke,[53] was still unmarried and living with her widowed father in Pembroke in the 1865 state census,[54] married Anson Hatch, of Duxbury, son of Ichabod and Celia S. (Palmer) Hatch Jr.,[55] on 2 Dec. 1866 in Abington, MA.[56] He was born on 22 Feb. 1838 in Marshfield, MA,[57] and served as a wagoner in Company G, the 18th Massachusetts Infantry during the Civil War.[58] They were living in Pembroke in the 1870 federal census, where he was a teamer, and her widowed father was living with them,[59] and in the 1880,[60] and 1900 federal censuses,[61] where he was a farmer. He filed for a Civil War Invalid Pension for his service in the Civil War on 6 Nov. 1890.[62] She died on 17 Feb. 1917 in Pembroke, MA, aged 72 years, 8 months, 23 days, of “endocarditis,”[63] and he died a widower on 27 Sept. 1917 in Pembroke, aged 79 years, 7 months, 5 days, of “cerebral haemmorrhage,”[64] and they were both buried in Plainville Cemetery in Marshfield, MA.

        4264   iii   Elisha Randall, born on 9 May 1798 in Pembroke,[65] named in his father’s 1799 will, his mother, Mercy Randall, was appointed as his guardian on 7 Mar. 1803,[66] marriage not found. He was not found in the 1850 or 1860 federal censuses in Massachusetts, and no death or burial record was found for him.

 

 

(1730.) Thomas Randall, second son of (513) Jemima5 Washburn, (135) Ephraim4, (59) Joseph3, (43) John2 (5th), (28) John1 (4th); born, say ca. 1767, baptized in Pembroke, MA, on 11 June 1780,[67] probably the Thomas Randall who married Sarah Simmons, daughter of Levi and Lydia (Lewis) Simmons,[68] in ca. 1786,[69] and settled in Duxbury, MA.[70] She was born in 1765 in Duxbury.[71] The will of Levi Simmons, of Duxbury, dated 28 June 1798, and probated on 17 July 1798, mentioned his wife Lydia Simmons, and daughter Sarah Randall, among others.[72] They were living in Duxborough (now Duxbury), Plymouth Co., MA, in the 1790 federal census,[73] but he was not a head of household in Duxbury in the 1800 federal census.

            Thomas Randall presumably died on 15 Oct. 1813 in Duxbury,[74] but no probate records were filed for his estate in Plymouth County, and his burial location is unknown. She was living next door to her son Rufus Randall in Duxbury in the 1840 federal census,[75] probably the Sally Randall living by herself in Duxbury, MA, in the 1850 federal census, next door to Briggs Cushman,[76] and she was living with her daughter and son-in-law, Stephen and Achsah Peterson, in Duxbury, in the 1860 federal census.[77] She died on 25 Jan. 1864 in Duxbury, aged 99 years, 7 days, of “old age,”[78] and was buried in Ashdod Cemetery in Duxbury, MA.

            Thomas Randall and Sarah Simmons had children:

        4265     i   Thomas Randall (Jr.), born on 9 Dec. 1786 in Duxbury,[79] married Mary “Polly” Wells, daughter of Robert and Elisabeth (Turner) Wells,[80] on 6 May 1817 in Pembroke, MA.[81] She was born ca. 1787 in MA.[82] They were living in Duxbury, MA, in the 1830,[83] and 1840 federal censuses, where he was a; farmer,[84] and in the 1850 federal census, next door to his brother, James P. Randall,[85] and in the 1860 federal census,[86] where he was a caulker, and he was living with the family of his son Robert T. Randall in Duxbury in the 1870,[87] and 1880 federal censuses.[88] She died on 13 Sept. 1864 in Duxbury, aged 77 years, 10 months, of “lung fever,”[89] and he died on 15 Mar. 1882, aged 95 years,[90] presumably in Duxbury, and they were both buried in Ashdod Cemetery in Duxbury, MA. They had children:

a. Mary W. Randall, born on 5 May 1819 in Duxbury,[91] died on 15 Dec. 1820 in Duxbury.[92]

b. Lydia B. Randall, born on 16 July 1821 in Duxbury,[93] possibly died by 1840.

c. Robert T. Randall, born on 10 Aug. 1825 in Duxbury,[94] married Hannah Eliza Whiting, daughter of Homer and Hannah (White) Whiting,[95] on 3 Jan. 1847 in Duxbury.[96] She was born on 11 June 1824 in VT.[97] They were living with his parents in Duxbury in the 1850,[98] and 1860 federal censuses,[99] where he was a farmer, his widowed father was living with them in Duxbury in the 1870,[100] and 1880 federal censuses,[101] and he was still a farmer in Duxbury in the 1900 federal census.[102] He died on 11 Dec. 1907 in West Duxbury, MA, aged 82 years, 4 months, 1 day, of pneumonia,[103] and she died a widow on 28 June 1919 in Kingston, MA, aged 95 years, 17 day, of “myocarditis,”[104] and they were both buried in Ashdod Cemetery in Duxbury, MA.

        4266    ii   Washburn Randall, born on 5 Aug. 1789 in Duxbury,[105] died on 27 July 1799 in Duxbury, aged 10 years “wanting 9 days.”[106]

        4267   iii   Luther Randall, born on 5 Apr. 1792 in Duxbury,[107] marriage not found. He was not found in the 1840 or 1850 federal censuses in Massachusetts, and he may have moved away.

        4268   iv   John Randall, born on 12 Mar. 1795 in Duxbury,[108] married Judith Peterson, daughter of Luther and Priscilla (Chipman) Peterson,[109] of Duxbury, on 23 Dec. 1821 in Duxbury.[110] She was born on 4 Aug. 1795 in Duxbury.[111] He died, however, on 27 Sept. 1823 in Duxbury, aged 28 years,[112] and was buried in Ashdod Cemetery in Duxbury, MA. She was living in Duxbury, MA, in the 1830 federal census,[113] and she remarried to Spencer Sampson on 30 Apr. 1832 in Duxbury.[114] He died in the almshouse in Duxbury on 13 Feb. 1837, aged 45 years, of palsy,[115] and she was still living in Duxbury with her daughter in the 1840 federal census.[116] She remarried again to Amos Sherman, of Marshfield, as his second wife, on 21 May 1842 in Marshfield.[117] He was born on 26 Nov. 1783 in Marshfield,[118] and had married first to Nancy Holmes, who died on 13 July 1840 in Marshfield, aged 64 years.[119] He died on 22 Aug. 1847 in Marshfield, aged 63 years,[120] and was buried with his first wife in Plainville Cemetery in Marshfield, MA. Judith (Peterson) (Randall) Sherman was living alone in Duxbury in the 1850 federal census,[121] and she was living with her son John T. Randall in Auburn, Androscoggin Co., ME, in the 1860,[122] and 1870 federal censuses.[123] No death or burial record was found for her. John Randall had two children:

a. John Thomas Randall, born on 28 Oct. 1822 in Duxbury,[124] was apparently not living with his widowed mother in Duxbury in the 1840 federal census, and he was not found in the 1850 federal census, but he married Jane Eliza Bailey, daughter of Almon B. and Marcia B. (Waterman) Bailey,[125] on 1 Oct. 1854 in Auburn, Androscoggin Co., ME.[126] She was born on 23 Dec. 1831 in New Gloucester, Cumberland Co., ME.[127] They were living in Auburn, Androscoggin Co., ME, next door to his sister and brother-in-law, Seth P. and Judith M. Miller, in the 1860 federal census, where he was a tanner and leather dealer,[128] and the 1870 federal census,. where he was a tanner and currier and shoe manufacturer,[129] and his widowed mother was living with them in 1860 and 1870. She died in Apr. 1880 in Auburn, Androscoggin Co., ME, aged 48 years,[130] and he was still living in Auburn, ME, in the 1880 federal census, where he was a shoe manufacturer.[131] He died on 24 Mar. 1882 in Auburn, ME, aged 59 years,[132] and they were both buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Auburn, ME.

b. Judith Marshall Randall, born posthumously on 25 Jan. 1824 in Duxbury,[133] married Seth Pierce Miller, son of Asa Rice and Hannah Tyler (Pierce) Miller,[134] on 1 Dec. 1844 in Boston, MA.[135] He was born on 30 Dec. 1821 in Westborough, Worcester Co., MA.[136] They were living in New Gloucester, Cumberland Co., ME, in the 1850 federal census, where he was a tanner,[137] and next door to her brother, John T. Randall, in Auburn, Androscoggin Co., ME, in the 1860 federal census, where he was a tanner and leather dealer,[138] the 1870 federal census, where he was a tanner and currier and shoe manufacturer,[139] and the 1880 federal census, where he was a shoe manufacturer.[140] She died in 1882,[141] and he died on 21 Dec. 1910 in Chicago, Cook Co., IL, aged 88 years,[142] and they were both buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Auburn, ME.

        4269    v   Achsah “Axie” Randall, born on 1 Aug. 1797 in Duxbury,[143] married Stephen Peterson, son of Thomas W. and Lydia (Ford) Peterson,[144] as his second wife, on 30 Apr. 1840 in Duxbury.[145] He was born on 7 Mar. 1805 in Duxbury,[146] and had married first to Sarah Randall, probably her younger sister, on 19 Jan. 1827 in Duxbury,[147] who died on 27 June 1838 in Duxbury.[148] Achsah (Randall) Peterson probably had no children. They were living in Duxbury, MA, near her brothers Thomas and James Randall in the 1840 federal census,[149] next door to or near her brother James Randall in Duxbury in the 1850 federal census, where he was a yeoman,[150] and the 1860 federal census, where he was a farmer, and her widowed mother was living with them,[151] and in Duxbury in the 1870,[152] and 1880 federal censuses,[153] where he was a farmer. He died on 12 Jan. 1888 in Duxbury, aged 83 years, of “old age,”[154] and she died a widow on 13 Jan. 1892 in Duxbury, aged 94 years, 4 months, 12 days, of “old age,”[155] and they were both buried in Ashdod Cemetery in Duxbury, MA.

        4270   vi   Betsey Randall, born on 31 [sic] Nov. 1799 in Duxbury,[156] married Ichabod Weston (Jr.), of Marshfield, son of Ichabod and Eleanor (Baker) Weston,[157] on 9 May 1824 in Duxbury.[158] He was born in Oct. 1796,[159] probably in Marshfield, and they were living in Marshfield, MA, in the 1850 federal census, where he was a farmer.[160] She died on 28 Feb. 1859 in Marshfield, MA, aged 60 years, of “dropsey,”[161] and he was still living in Marshfield in the 1860 federal census, where he was a housewright,[162] but he was not found in the 1870 federal census. He died a widower on 17 Nov. 1873 in Marshfield, MA, aged 77 years, 9 months, 27 days,[163] and they were both buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Marshfield, MA. They had children:[164]

a. Washburn Weston, born ca. 1825 in Duxbury,[165] married 1.) Mary H. (___) in ca. 1846.[166] She was born ca. 1830 in MA.[167] They were living in East Boston, Suffolk Co., MA, in the 1850 federal census, where he was a painter.[168] She apparently died by 1858, and he remarried to 2.) Hannah Elizabeth Hawkins, daughter of John and Elizabeth Hawkins,[169] on 18 Nov. 1858 in Boston.[170] She was born in Aug. 1838 in Boonton Falls, Morris Co., NJ.[171] They were living in East Boston, Suffolk Co., MA, next door to his brother Hiram Weston, in the 1860,[172] and 1870 federal censuses,[173] where he was a painter, and in Winthrop, Suffolk Co., MA, in the 1880 federal census, where he was still a painter.[174] He died on 17 Jan. 1886,[175] presumably in Suffolk Co., MA, but his burial location is unknown. She was still living in Winthrop, MA, in the 1900 federal census,[176] and she died a widow on 29 July 1910 in Winthrop, MA, aged 71 years, 11 months, 5 days, of “enteretis,”[177] but her burial location is unknown.

b. Simeon Weston, born on 19 Mar. 1825 in Marshfield,[178] moved to Boston, where he was a carpenter, and married Ellen M. A. Mulcay, of Boston, daughter of Peter and Sarah Mulcay,[179] on 26 June 1859 in Chelsea, Suffolk Co., MA.[180] She was born on 9 Jan. 1839 in Halifax, NS.[181] They were living in East Boston, Suffolk Co., MA, in the 1860,[182] and 1870 federal censuses,[183] where he was a house carpenter, and in the 1880 federal census.[184] He died on 30 Mar. 1893 in Boston, MA, aged 66 years, 11 months, of “Bright’s Disease,”[185] and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett, Middlesex Co., MA. She a widow died on 8 Mar. 1912 in Boston, aged 73 years, 1 month, 30 days, of “La Grippe,”[186] and was buried in Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield, Middlesex Co., MA.

c. Hiram Weston, born on ca. 10 Mar. 1829 in Marshfield,[187] married Mary Randal Thomas, his first cousin, daughter of Zenas and (4272) Mary L. (Randall) Thomas, of Marshfield,[188] on 10 Mar. 1858 in Chelsea, MA.[189] She was born on 17 Apr. 1832 in Marshfield.[190] They were living in East Boston, Suffolk Co., MA, next door to his brother Washburn Weston, in the 1860,[191] and 1870 federal censuses,[192] where he was a painter, and in Boston in the 1880 federal census, “at home,”[193] and the 1900 federal census, where he was a landlord.[194] He died on 3 Jan. 1903 in Boston, MA, aged 73 years, 9 months, 24 days of “pulmonary tuberculosis,”[195] and was buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Marshfield, MA. She died a widow on 28 Aug. 1910 in Boston, aged 78 years, of “pul hemorrhage, pul tuberculosis,”[196] but her burial location is unknown.

d. Betsey Randall Weston, born on ca. 6 Apr. 1831 in Marshfield,[197] married Joseph Haynes Jr., of Charlestown, MA, son of Joseph and Elizabeth “Betsey” (Haseltine) Haynes,[198] on 6 Apr. 1854 in Marshfield.[199] He was born on 16 Mar. 1822 in Haverhill, MA.[200] They were living in Charlestown, Middlesex Co., MA, in the 1860 federal census, where he was a clock maker,[201] but they were not found in the 1870 federal census. They were living in Boston, Suffolk Co., MA, in the 1880 federal census, where he was a clock maker,[202] and with their daughter and son-in-law, Walter B. and Ada F. Guild, in Boston in the 1900 federal census.[203] He died on 18 Apr. 1901 in Boston, MA, aged 79 years, 1 month, 2 days, of “suppurative cystitis (2 wks.), senile debility,”[204] and she died a widow on 17 May 1913 in Boston, MA, aged 82 years, 1 month, 11 days, of “chro. arterio-sclerosis,”[205] and they were both buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Marshfield, MA.

e. Harriet Thomas Weston, born in June 1833 in Marshfield,[206] never married.[207] She was still unmarried and living with her widowed father in Marshfield, MA, in the 1860 federal census, a seamstress,[208] but she was not found in the 1870 federal census. She was living with her sister Deborah Weston in Marshfield in the 1880,[209] and 1900 federal censuses.[210] She died on 25 Dec. 1915 in Duxbury, aged 82 years,[211] and was buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Marshfield, MA.

f. Ichabod Weston (3rd), born ca. 1837 in MA,[212] was still unmarried and living with his widowed father in Marshfield, MA, in the 1860 federal census, a bookkeeper,[213] died on 12 Jan. 1865 in Partido de Carmen de Areco, Buenos Aires, Argentina, aged 29 years, 29 days,[214] and was buried in Estancia El destino, Magdalena, Partido de Magdalena, Buenos Aires, Argentina, presumably unmarried.

g. Deborah Weston, born on ca. 27 Sept. 1842 in Marshfield,[215] never married.[216] She was not found in the 1870 federal census, but she was living with her sister Harriet Weston in Marshfield, MA, in the 1880,[217] and 1900 federal censuses.[218] She died on 9 Dec. 1909 in Marshfield, aged 67 years, 2 months, 12 days, of “general arterio sclerosis,”[219] and was buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Marshfield, MA.

        4271  vii   James P. Randall, born on 17 May 1803 in Duxbury,[220] married Deborah H. Peterson, daughter of William and Deborah (Hall) Peterson,[221] on 11 Feb. 1829 in Duxbury.[222] She was born on 4 Mar. 1803 in Duxbury.[223] They were living in Duxbury, MA, next door to his brother, Thomas Randall (Jr.), in the 1840,[224] and 1850 federal censuses,[225] and in the 1860,[226] and 1870 federal censuses,[227] where he was a farmer, but they were not found in the 1880 federal census. She died on 14 Feb. 1887 in Weymouth, MA, aged 83 years, 11 months, 14 days, of “cerebral apoplexy,”[228] and he died a widower on 20 Nov. 1895 in Duxbury, aged 94 [sic] years, 6 months, 3 days, of “old age,”[229] but their burial location is unknown. They had children:

a. William P. Randall, born on 2 Aug. 1830 in Duxbury,[230] married Lucinda Clapp on 19 June 1852 in Hanover, Plymouth Co., MA.[231] She was born ca. 1839 in MA.[232] They were living in Pembroke, MA, with the family of Perez and Lucy A. McFarlin in the 1860 federal census, where he was a teamster,[233] in South Scituate, Plymouth Co., MA, in the 1870 federal census, where he was a hostler,[234] and in Scituate, MA, in the 1880 federal census, where he was a fish pedlar,[235] but they were not found in the 1900 federal census. She died before 1910, but no death or burial record was found for her, and he died a widower on 31 Dec. 1910 in Brockton, MA, aged 82 [sic] years, 4 months, 30 days, of “carcinoma of stomach,”[236] and was buried in Ashdod Cemetery in Duxbury, MA.

b. Mary J. Randall, born on 2 Feb. 1832 in Duxbury,[237] apparently married Benjamin F. Robins on 17 Feb. 1846 in Duxbury.[238] They were not found in the 1850, 1860 or 1870 federal censuses, and no death or burial record was found for either of them.

c. Laura A. Randall, born on 25 Jan. 1834 in Duxbury,[239] married Proctor A. Damon.[240] He was born ca. 1832, and served as a Private in Company A, the Massachusetts 1st Heavy Artillery Battalion during the Civil War.[241] They were living with her parents in Duxbury, MA, in the 1870 federal census, where he was farming,[242] and in Plympton, MA, in the 1880 federal census, where he was a shoemaker.[243] He filed for a Civil War Invalid Pension for his service in the Civil War on 1 May 1889.[244] He died on 14 Feb. 1904 in Plympton, MA,[245] and his widow Laura A. Damon filed for a widow’s pension for his Civil War service on 29 Apr. 1904.[246] She died on 22 July 1911, aged 77 years,[247] and they were both buried in Ashdod Cemetery in Duxbury, MA.

d. Jason Hall Randall, born on 22 Aug. 1836 in Duxbury,[248] served as a Private in Company G, the 38th Massachusetts Infantry during the Civil War,[249] and married Julia W. Chandler,[250] daughter of Nathaniel Lewis and Sarah “Sally” Weston (Sampson) Chandler,[251] on 5 Apr. 1854 in Marshfield, MA.[252] She was born on 8 June 1838 in Duxbury.[253] They were living in Duxbury, MA, in the 1860,[254] and 1870 federal censuses,[255] where he was a shoemaker, and the 1880 federal census, where he was a farmer.[256] He filed for a Civil War Invalid Pension for his service in the Civil War on 19 May 1883,[257] and they were still living in Duxbury in the 1900 federal census, where he was a day laborer.[258] He died on 26 Aug. 1910 in West Duxbury, MA, aged 75 [sic] years, 3 days, of “myocarditis,”[259] and his widow Julia W. Randall filed for a widow’s pension for his Civil War service on 16 Sept. 1910.[260] She died on 2 Mar. 1914 in Abington, MA, aged 75 years, 8 months, 22 days, of “cerebral hemorrhage,”[261] and they were both buried in Ashdod Cemetery in Duxbury, MA.

e. Francis J. Randall, born on 16 June 1837 in Duxbury,[262] served as a Private in Company I, the 4th Massachusetts Infantry during the Civil War,[263] and was still unmarried and living with his parents in Duxbury, MA, in the 1870 federal census, farming,[264] married Susan Augusta Watson, daughter of George and Hannah Watson,[265] on 8 Nov. 1871 in Duxbury.[266] She was born on 1 Jan. 1842 in Duxbury.[267] They were living in Duxbury, MA, in the 1880 federal census, in the dwelling of his uncle, Rufus Randall, where he was a trader.[268] She died on 13 June 1886 in Duxbury, aged 44 years, 6 months, 13 days, of pneumonia.[269] He filed for a Civil War Invalid Pension for his service in the Civil War on 15 Apr. 1889,[270] and was still living in Duxbury in the 1900 federal census.[271] He died on 25 Jan. 1924 in Duxbury, aged 86 years, of “chronic bronchitis,”[272] and they were both buried in Ashdod Cemetery in Duxbury, MA.

f. Gustavus Randall, born on 7 Jan. 1838 [sic] in Duxbury,[273] died on 20 Aug. 1839 in Duxbury,[274] but his burial location is unknown.

        4272 viii   Mary L. Randall, born on 11 June 1805 in Duxbury,[275] married Zenas Thomas, son of Isaac and Temperance (Turner) Thomas, of Marshfield,[276] on 1 July 1826 in Duxbury.[277] He was born on 8 Feb. 1802 in Marshfield.[278] They were living in Marshfield, MA, in the 1850 federal census, where he was a farmer.[279] She died on 22 Oct. 1853 in Marshfield, aged 48 years, 4 months, 11 days,[280] and was buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Marshfield, MA. He remarried three more times, to Betsey Tilden Sprague, daughter of Luther and Lydia (Lewis) Sprague Jr.,[281] on 6 Mar. 1855 in Marshfield,[282] who died on 29 July 1856 in Marshfield, aged 35 years, 7 months, 9 days, of “inflamation of stomach & bowells,”[283] and was buried in Chapel Cemetery in Marshfield. Zenas then remarried to Elizabeth (Ricker) Sprague, daughter of David and Lydia Ricker,[284] on 25 Nov. 1858 in Marshfield,[285] and they were living in Marshfield in the 1860 federal census.[286] She died on 17 Nov. 1865 in Marshfield, aged 37 years, 4 months, 9 days, of “childbed,”[287] and was buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Marshfield, and he remarried again to Mary Abbie J. (Putnam) Paull, daughter of George Washington and Lucinda (Hills) Putnam, and widow of Billings Presbrey Paull,[288] on 6 Apr. 1869 in Pembroke, MA.[289] They were living in Marshfield in the 1870 federal census.[290] Mary Abbie J. (Putnam) (Paull) Thomas died on 8 Aug. 1879 in Marshfield, aged 46 years, 10 months, 28 days, of “consumption,”[291] and was buried in Middletown Cemetery in Andover, Windsor Co., VT. Zenas Thomas was still living in Marshfield in the 1880 federal census,[292] and he died on 20 Feb. 1885 in Marshfield, aged 83 years, 12 days, of pneumonia,[293] and was also buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Marshfield, MA. Mary L. (Randall) Thomas had children:

a. Achsah “Axie” Thomas, born on 25 Aug. 1826 in Marshfield,[294] married Curtis B. Goodsell,[295] son of Silas and Sarah (Godfrey) Goodsell.[296] He was born in Dec. 1821 in Westport, Fairfield Co., CT.[297] They were living in East Boston, Suffolk Co., MA, in the 1850 federal census, where he was a mariner,[298] and the 1860 federal census, where he was a seaman,[299] but they were not found in the 1870 federal census. They were living in Marshfield, MA, in the 1880 federal census, where he was a farmer.[300] She died on 24 June 1895 in Marshfield, aged 68 years, 10 months, of “disease of liver,”[301] and he died on 3 July 1904 in Marshfield, aged 82 years, 6 months, 24 days, of “chronic gastritis with chronic bronchiotis,”[302] they were both buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Marshfield, MA.

b. Lydia Bird Thomas, born on 4 Feb. 1829 in Marshfield,[303] married Martin Chandler, son  of Martin S. and Nancy (Delano) Chandler, of Duxbury,[304] on 13 Mar. 1850 in Boston, MA.[305] He was born on 20 Jan. 1824 in Duxbury.[306] They were living in Duxbury, MA, in the 1850 federal census, where he had no occupation,[307] and in Marshfield, MA, in the 1860 federal census, where he was a photograph artist,[308] and the 1870,[309] and 1880 federal censuses,[310] where he was a photographer. He died on 6 Jan. 1898 in Marshfield, aged 73 years, 11 months, 17 days, of “heart failure.”[311] She was still living in Marshfield in the 1900 federal census,[312] and she died a widow on 22 May 1912 in Marshfield, aged 83 years, 3 months, 18 days, of “paralysis.”[313]

c. Mary Randal Thomas, born on 17 Apr. 1832 in Marshfield,[314] married her first cousin, Hiram Weston, son of Ichabod and (4270) Betsey (Randall) Weston, of Marshfield, on 10 Mar. 1858 in Chelsea, MA.[315] He was born on ca. 10 Mar. 1829 in Marshfield.[316] They were living in East Boston, Suffolk Co., MA, next door to his brother Washburn Weston, in the 1860,[317] and 1870 federal censuses,[318] where he was a painter, and in Boston in the 1880 federal census, “at home,”[319] and the 1900 federal census, where he was a landlord.[320] He died on 3 Jan. 1903 in Boston, MA, aged 73 years, 9 months, 24 days of “pulmonary tuberculosis,”[321] and was buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Marshfield, MA. She died a widow on 28 Aug. 1910 in Boston, aged 78 years, of “pul hemorrhage, pul tuberculosis,”[322] but her burial location is unknown.

d. Turner Thomas, born on 13 June 1835 in Marshfield,[323] died on 9 July 1857, aged 14 [sic] years,[324] and was buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Marshfield, MA.

        4273   ix   Sally Randall, born on 2 June 1807 in Duxbury,[325] probably the Sarah Randall who married Stephen Peterson, son of Thomas W. and Lydia (Ford) Peterson,[326] as his first wife, on 19 Jan. 1827 in Duxbury.[327] He was born on 7 Mar. 1805 in Duxbury.[328] They were living in Duxbury, MA, in the 1830 federal census.[329] She died on 27 June 1838 in Duxbury,[330] but her burial location is unknown, and he remarried to Achsah Randall, probably her older sister, on 30 Apr. 1840 in Duxbury.[331] She was born on 1 Aug. 1797 in Duxbury.[332] They were living in Duxbury, MA, near her brothers Thomas and James Randall in the 1840 federal census,[333] next door to or near her brother James Randall in Duxbury in the 1850 federal census, where he was a yeoman,[334] and the 1860 federal census, where he was a farmer, and her widowed mother was living with them,[335] and in Duxbury in the 1870,[336] and 1880 federal censuses,[337] where he was a farmer. He died on 12 Jan. 1888 in Duxbury, aged 83 years, of “old age,”[338] and she died a widow on 13 Jan. 1892 in Duxbury, aged 94 years, 4 months, 12 days, of “old age,”[339] and they were both buried in Ashdod Cemetery in Duxbury, MA. Sarah (Randall) Peterson had children:

a. John T. Peterson, born on 6 May 1828 in Duxbury,[340] was still unmarried and living with his father in Duxbury in the 1850 federal census,[341] married Sarah Alice Street Drake, daughter of Stafford and Adeline Hewitt (Drake) Drake, of North Bridgewater,[342] on 14 Nov. 1850 in North Bridgewater, MA.[343] She was born on 9 June 1832 in North Bridgewater.[344] They were living in North Bridgewater, MA, near his brother Lewis W. Peterson and her parents, Stafford and Adaline Drake, in the 1860,[345] and 1870 federal censuses,[346] and in Brockton, MA, in the 1880 federal census,[347] where he was a carpenter. She died on 22 Sept. 1888 in Brockton, MA, aged 56 years, 3 months, 13 days, of “cancer of uterus,”[348] and he died a widower on 18 Nov. 1893 in Brockton, MA, aged 66 years, 6 months, 12 days, of “aortic aneurism hemiplegia and pulmonary gangrene,”[349] but their burial location is unknown.

b. Stephen F. Peterson,  born on 20 Apr. 1830 in Duxbury,[350] married Caroline Baker, daughter of George and Hannah (Chandler) Baker, of Duxbury,[351] on 7 Sept. 1851 in Duxbury.[352] She was born on 6 Sept. 1833 in Duxbury.[353] They were living near or next door to his father in Duxbury, MA, in the 1860,[354] 1870,[355] and 1880 federal censuses,[356] where he was a farmer. He died on 22 Mar. 1906 in Duxbury, aged 75 years, 11 months, 21 days, of “hyperstatic pneumonia due to chronic myocarditis,”[357] and she died a widow on 27 Mar. 1913 in Duxbury, aged 79 years, 6 months, 21 days, of “angina pectoris,”[358] and they were both buried in Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury, MA.

c. Lewis W. Peterson, born on 27 Dec. 1832 in Duxbury,[359] married Naomi P. Cole, of Abington, daughter of Levi and Betsey Cole,[360] on 30 May 1855 in Abington.[361] She was born ca. 1836 in Leeds, ME.[362] They were living in North Bridgewater, MA, next door to Stafford and Adaline Drake, and near his brother John T. Peterson, in the 1860 federal census, where he was operating a stitching machine,[363] and the 1870 federal census, where he was working in a shoe factory.[364] She died on 23 Feb. 1875 in Brockton, MA, aged 38 years, 5 months, 18 days, of pneumonia,[365] but her burial location is unknown. He died accidentally on 15 Dec. 1879 in Boston, MA, aged 47 years,[366] but his burial location is also unknown.

d. (Unnamed son), born on 11 Mar. 1835 in Duxbury,[367] probably died young.

d. Sarah R. Peterson, born on 11 Dec. 1837 in Duxbury,[368] was still unmarried and living with her father in Duxbury in the 1860 federal census,[369] married George L. Baker, son of George and Hannah (Chandler) Baker, of Duxbury,[370] on 6 Sept. 1863 in Duxbury.[371] He was born on 24 Nov. 1825 in Duxbury.[372] They were living in Duxbury, MA, next door to her father in the 1870 federal census, where he was a farmer,[373] and near her brother Stephen F. Peterson in Duxbury in the 1880 federal census, where he was a farm laborer.[374] He died on 24 Aug. 1896 in Duxbury, aged 69 years, 9 months, of “paralysis following injury to spine,”[375] and she died on 16 Mar. 1928,[376] presumably in Duxbury, and they were both buried in Ashdod Cemetery in Duxbury, MA.

        4274    x   Rufus Randall, born on 31 July 1810 in Duxbury,[377] married Deborah N. Church, of Marshfield, MA, on 20 June 1830 in Duxbury, MA.[378] They were living in Duxbury, MA, next door to his widowed mother in the 1840 federal census, where he was a farmer.[379] She died on 19 Dec. 1848 in Marshfield, aged 52 years, 9 months,[380] and was buried in Plainfield Cemetery in Marshfield, MA. He was living in Duxbury with the family of Martin and Sarah A. Church in the 1850,[381] and 1860 federal censuses,[382] where he was a shoemaker. Martin Church died on 15 Nov. 1868 in Duxbury, aged 50 years, 4 months, 14 days, by “suicide, insanity,”[383] and may have been the brother of Deborah N. Church.[384] Rufus Randall was living with the widow Sarah A. Church in Duxbury in the 1870 federal census, where he was farming,[385] and she was living with him in Duxbury in the 1880 federal census, where his nephew Francis Randall was also living in the same house.[386] He died a widower on 1 Jan. 1900 in Duxbury, aged 89 years, 5 months, 1 day,[387] and was buried in Ashdod Cemetery in Duxbury, MA. They had at least one child:

a. Sarah Elizabeth Randall, born on 11 July 1832 in Duxbury,[388] married Lewis B. Barstow, son of Lewis and Lydia (Louden) Barstow, of Duxbury,[389] on 29 Nov. 1851 in Duxbury.[390] He was born on 29 Nov. 1830 in Duxbury.[391] They were living in Duxbury, MA, in the 1860 federal census, where he was a mason,[392] the 1870 federal census, where he was a bricklayer,[393] and the 1880 federal census, where he was a merchant.[394] He died on 20 Jan. 1909 in Duxbury, aged 78 years, 1 month, 22 days, of “brain disease,”[395] and she died a widow on 5 Oct. 1918 in Marshfield, aged 86 years, 1 month, 24 days, of “acute bronchitis,”[396] and they were both buried in Sachem Lodge Cemetery in Pembroke, MA.

[A] Will of Ephraim Randall of Pembroke, Plymouth County, Commonwealth of Massachusetts (1799) *

        In the name of God Amen. This fourth day of September, Seventeen hundred & ninety nine.—I Ephraim Randall of Pembroke in the county of Plymouth yeoman, being under indisposition of body, but of sound mind & memory thanks be given to God for the same, and calling to mind the mortality of my body, and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die, make and ordain this my last will & testament, and touching such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life, I Give and dispose of the same in manner & form following ~

        Imprimis, and First of all, I Give up & recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it, and my body to the earth, to be buried in a Christianlike manner, at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named –

        Item.—I Give & bequeath to my well beloved wife Mercy Randall, the use & improvement of all my homestead farm, whereon I now dwell, laying in Pembroke, land & buildings, so long as she remains my widow, excepting the improvement of my wood land, I give to her a right to cut for fencing, repairs & one fire only; I also give to my wife, one yoke of oxen, three Cows, ten sheep, one horse, one Chaise, one cart & wheels, one large plow & one horse plow & one chain & horse tackling, all my Silver, Peuter, Brass, Iron & earthen, all my green chairs, all my spinning wheels, all my tables, half dozen kitchen chairs & Desk; I also give my wife all my beds & furniture except one with furniture, she my said wife bringing up my children to good common education, and giving trades to my two sons, Ephraim & Elisha by putting them at the Carpenters trade at Sixteen years of age, the above articles of personal estate, I give free & clear to my said wife forever.

        Item.—I Give and bequeath to my Daughter Mercy Randall my best bed & furniture, to be delivered by my Executors at the age eighteen or marriage.

        Item—I Give and bequeath to my two sons, Ephraim & Elisha, all my Real Estate, laying in Pembroke, to be equally divided, between them and come into possession of the same at the time my said wife shall cease to be my widow, to them, their & assigns forever—and it is my mind and will, that if either of my sons Ephraim or Elisha, die before coming into possession of what I have given them in this will, the surviving son shall have the whole—I further order my Executor to sell my land at gravelly beach, for the payment of my debts—all the remainder & residue of my personal estate, I order sold for the payment of my debts, funeral charges &c.

I furthermore, constitute & appoint my wife Mercy Randall & my brother in law Elisha Phillips joint Executors to this my last will & testament—In witness whereof, I have hereunto Set my hand & seal, the Day and year above written and declare this my last will and testament –
