(2014.) Rest6 Washburn, elder daughter of (696) Capt. Thomas5 Washburn, (174) Moses4 Washburn, (65) James3, (43) John2 (5th), (28) John1 (4th); born in Dartmouth, Bristol Co., MA, on 27 Nov. 1769,[1] married William Reynolds, of Dartmouth, MA, son of Michael and Mercy (Chase) Reynolds, of Freetown, Bristol Co., MA,[2] possibly as his second wife, in 1786.[3] He was born in 1767 in Dartmouth, supposedly a grandson of Electious and Charity (Caswell) Reynolds, of Middleborough, and of Caleb and Ruth (Paine) Chase.[4] They were living in New Bedford, MA, in the 1790,[5] and 1800 federal censuses.[6]
Rest (Washburn) Reynolds died by 1807, but her burial location is unknown, and William Reynolds remarried to Lydia Hathaway in 1807.[7] They were living in Freetown, MA, in the 1810 federal census.[8] He supposedly died in Feb. 1852,[9] but his Massachusetts death record was not found, and their burial location is unknown.
Rest Washburn and William Reynolds had at least two sons:
4290 i Micah Reynolds, born on 31 July 1796 in New Bedford, Bristol Co., MA,[10] married 1.) Martha “Patty” Reynolds, of Dartmouth, MA, on 25 Dec. 1817 in Dartmouth.[11] She was born ca. 1794 in MA.[12] They were living in Dartmouth, Bristol Co., MA, in the 1840,[13] 1850,[14] and 1860 federal censuses,[15] where he was a farmer. She died on 28 May 1861,[16] and was buried in Pine Island Cemetery in Dartmouth, Bristol Co., MA. He remarried to 2.) Elizabeth (Terry) (___) Dunham, of Dartmouth, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Terry, of Plymouth,[17] as her third husband, on 17 Mar. 1864 in Dartmouth, MA.[18] She was born ca. 1806 in Plymouth, MA.[19] They were living in Dartmouth in the 1870 federal census, where he was a farm laborer.[20] She died on 20 Dec. 1875 in Dartmouth, of pneumonia,[21] and he was still living in Dartmouth in the 1880 federal census.[22] He died a widower on 1 Feb. 1881 in Dartmouth, MA, aged 85 years, 9 months, of an accident,[23] and they were both also buried in Pine Island Cemetery in Dartmouth, MA. He had children by Martha Reynolds:
a. Martha Ann Reynolds, born on 6 Feb. 1826 in MA,[24] married Isaac Rogers, son of Jeptha and Mercy (Pool) Rogers, of Dartmouth,[25] in ca. 1846.[26] He was born ca. 1823 in MA.[27] They were living with her parents in Dartmouth, MA, in the 1850 federal census, where he was a farmer,[28] but they were not found in the 1860 federal census in Bristol Co., MA. He died on 2 Aug. 1866 in Dartmouth, aged 43 years, 11 months, 15 days, of “kidney & heart disease,”[29] but his burial location is unknown. She remarried to 2.) Alexander Lake, son of William and Charlotte (Sherman) Lake,[30] as his second wife, on 7 Jan. 1869 in Dartmouth, MA.[31] He was born ca. 1833 in Fall River, Bristol Co., MA.[32] They were living in Dartmouth, MA, in the 1870 federal census, where he was working in a cotton mill,[33] but they were apparently divorced by 1880. He was living with his mother and stepfather, Perry and Charlotte Albert, in Dartmouth in the 1880 federal census, where he was still working in a cotton mill,[34] but Martha was not found in the 1880 federal census. Alexander Lake remarried to Deborah A. Soule, daughter of Pardon W. and Mary A. Soule, of Westport, MA,[35] on 16 Dec. 1880 in Dartmouth, MA.[36] Martha Ann (Reynolds) (Rogers) Lake died, as Martha A. Rogers, on 14 Mar. 1897 in New Bedford, aged 70 years, 1 month, of “heart disease, asthmia,”[37] and was buried in Rural Cemetery in New Bedford, MA. Alexander Lake died on 2 Nov. 1902 in Dartmouth, MA, aged 63 years, 2 months, 13 days, of “gastric interitis,”[38] and was buried in Maple Grove Cemetery in Westport, Bristol Co., MA. No death record was found for Deborah A. (Soule) Lake.
b. Wilson S. Reynolds, born on 7 Feb. 1831 in Freetown, Bristol Co., MA,[39] married Rebecca Ashley, daughter of Taber and Elizabeth (Wordell) Ashley, of Dartmouth,[40] on 20 Apr. 1858 in Dartmouth.[41] She was born ca. 1827 in Dartmouth.[42] They were living in New Bedford, Bristol Co., MA, in the 1860 federal census, where he was a laborer.[43] He died on 17 Nov. 1869 in New Bedford, MA, aged 38 years, of “dropsy,”[44] and was buried in Ashley Family Cemetery in Dartmouth, MA. She was still living in New Bedford in the 1870 federal census,[45] and she remarried, as Rebecca Ashley, to Seabury Nelson Lane, son of Ephraim and Lamyra A. (Chace) Lane,[46] as his second wife, on 9 Nov. 1876 in New Bedford, MA.[47] He was born on 24 Mar. 1837 in Norton, MA,[48] and had married first to Ida Anna Robinson, daughter of Ruel and Eliza A. (Dunham) Robinson,[49] who died on 6 Mar. 1874 in Norton, MA, aged 30 years, 22 days, of “consumption,”[50] and was buried in Norton Common Cemetery in Norton, MA. Rebecca (Ashley) (Reynolds) Lane died on 6 June 1877 in New Bedford, aged 50 years, of “gastric fever,”[51] and was buried with her first husband in Ashley Family Cemetery in Dartmouth, MA. Seabury N. Lane died on 5 Mar. 1890, aged 52 years,[52] and was buried in Norton Common Cemetery in Norton, Bristol Co., MA.
c. William Taber Reynolds, born ca. 1833 in Dartmouth, MA,[53] married Melissa “Lizzie” Skiff,[54] daughter of Pardon T. and Rebecca (Randall) Skiff, of New Bedford,[55] on 16 Aug. 1857 in Dartmouth.[56] She was born ca. 1839 in New Bedford, MA.[57] They were living with her parents in New Bedford in the 1860 federal census, where he was a teamer,[58] in Providence, Providence Co., RI, in the 1870 federal census, where he was a policeman,[59] and in Cranston, Providence Co., RI, in the 1880 federal census, where he was a carriage driver.[60] He died on 30 July 1883 in New Bedford, aged 50 years, 2 months, 2 days, of “apoplectic shock,”[61] and was buried in Rural Cemetery in New Bedford, Bristol Co., MA. She was living with her son William W. Reynolds in Providence, RI, in the 1900 federal census,[62] and she died a widow on 6 June 1909 in North Scituate, Providence Co., RI, aged 70 years, 2 months, 30 days, of “fatty heart, uraemia.”[63]
d. James A. Reynolds, born ca. 1839 in MA,[64] was still unmarried and living with his parents in Dartmouth, MA, in the 1860 federal census, a farm hand,[65] marriage not found.
4291 ii Thaddeus Reynolds, born on 18 June 1798 in Freetown, MA,[66] married 1.) Mary Crapo, possibly daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Crapo, of Dartmouth,[67] on 21 Feb. 1818 in Dartmouth.[68] She was born on 14 Oct. 1797 in Dartmouth,[69] and they were living in New Bedford, MA, in the 1840 federal census.[70] She died by 1846, and he possibly remarried to 2.) Betsey Reed, of New Bedford, on 7 May 1846 in New Bedford.[71] She was born ca. 1816.[72] They were living in Freetown, Bristol Co., MA, in the 1850 federal census, where he was a laborer,[73] but they were not found in the 1860 federal census. He died on 15 Sept. 1885 in Dartmouth, MA, aged 87 years, 2 months, 27 days, of “old age,”[74] but his burial location is unknown. He supposedly had children by Mary Crapo:
a. Maria H. Reynolds, born on 14 Apr. 1817 in Dartmouth, MA,[75] married 1.) (___) Slocum, and 2.) Joshua Rotch, illegitimate son of Phebe Barret,[76] as his second wife, on 17 Mar. 1857 in Dartmouth.[77] He was born in Oct. 1813 in Dartmouth,[78] and had married first to the widow Rhoda Brailey on 9 July 1848 in Dartmouth,[79] and they were living in Dartmouth in the 1850 federal census, where he was a laborer,[80] and Joshua and Maria Rotch were still living in Dartmouth in the 1860 federal census, where he was a laborer.[81] He served in Company H, the 38th Massachusetts Infantry during the Civil War, and he died on 15 May 1863 in the hospital in Alexandria, VA, aged 49 years, 8 months, of diabetes,[82] and was buried in Pine Island Cemetery in Dartmouth, MA, in June 1863.
