Lewis6 Edson (Jr.), son of (556) Hephzibah5 Washburn, (147) Jonathan4 (Jr.), (60) Jonathan3, (43) John2 (5th), (28) John1 (4th); born supposedly in Bridgewater, MA, on 23 Jan. 1771,[1] married Orilla Mead in ca. 1799.[2] She was born ca. 1778.[3] He was probably the Lewis Edson who lived in Woodstock, New York, a composer of hymns. They were possibly living in Danbury, Fairfield Co., CT, in the 1800 federal census,[4] in New York, New York Co., NY, in the 1810 federal census,[5] and in Woodstock, Ulster Co., NY, in the 1830 federal census,[6] but he was not a head of household in Ulster Co., NY, in the 1820 or 1840 federal censuses. He supposedly died on 23 May 1845 in Woodstock, NY,[7] but his burial location is unknown.
Lewis Edson (Jr.) and Orilla Mead had children:
4545 i Virgil7 James Edson, born on 9 Jan. 1800 in Danbury, Fairfield Co., CT,[8] married Jane Van Volcanner.[9] She was born ca. 1797 in NY.[10] They were living in Woodstock, Ulster Co., NY, in the 1840,[11] and 1850 federal censuses, where he was a farmer.[12] She died in 1854,[13] presumably in Ulster Co., NY, and was buried in Wesleyan Church Cemetery in Willow, Ulster Co., NY. He was still living in Woodstock, NY, in the 1860 federal census, where he was a farmer,[14] and with his son Wesley Edson in Woodstock, NY, in the 1870 federal census.[15] He died on 22 Oct. 1877 in Lake Hill, Ulster Co., NY, aged 77 years,[16] and was also buried in Wesleyan Church Cemetery in Willow, NY. They supposedly had children:[17]
a. Lewis Milton Edson, born on 9 Oct. 1821 in Danbury, CT, died on 18 Dec. 1821,[18] presumably in Danbury, CT, but his burial location is unknown.
b. Eliza Catharine Edson, born on 15 Oct. 1822 in NY,[19] was still unmarried and living with her parents in Woodstock, NY, in the 1840 federal census, married Nelson Harder in ca. 1846.[20] He was born on 17 Jan. 1819 in NY.[21] They were living with her parents in Woodstock, Ulster Co., NY, in the 1850 federal census, where he was a farmer,[22] and in Saugerties, Ulster Co., NY, in the 1860 federal census, where he was a laborer,[23] and the 1870 federal census, where he was a cooper.[24] He died on 5 Aug. 1877, aged 58 years,[25] and was buried in Cairo Cemetery in Cairo, Greene Co., NY. She was a widow living in Greenville, Greene Co., NY, in the 1880 federal census,[26] and she died on 24 Dec. 1888 in Cairo, Greene Co., NY, aged 66 years,[27] and was also buried in Cairo Cemetery in Cairo, Greene Co., NY.
c. Lewis Gilver Edson, born on 15 July 1824, died on 24 Apr. 1849 in Schoharie Co., NY,[28] presumably unmarried, but his burial location is unknown.
d. Admiral Warren Edson, born on 24 June 1826, died on 24 Dec. 1844,[29] but his burial location is unknown.
e. Jacob Peter Edson, born on 23 May 1828, died on 15 Dec. 1849,[30] but his burial location is unknown.
f. Albert Clinton Edson, born on 13 Sept. 1830, died on 11 Jan. 1850,[31] but his burial location is unknown.
g. John8 Wesley Edson, born on 7 July 1834 in NY,[32] married Sarah Jane Dymond on 26 May 1855.[33] She was born in Apr. 1837 in NY.[34] They were still living with his father in Woodstock, NY, in the 1860 federal census,[35] his father was living with them in Woodstock, NY, in the 1870 federal census,[36] and they were still living in Woodstock, NY, in the 1880,[37] and 1900 federal censuses,[38] where he was a farmer. She died on 24 June 1911 in Lake Hill, Woodstock, Ulster Co., NY,[39] and he died on 10 Nov. 1924 in East Jewett, Greene Co., NY, aged 95 years,[40] and they were both buried in Wesleyan Church Cemetery in Willow, Ulster Co., NY.
4546 ii Clarissa Edson, born in 1802,[41] supposedly married William Sherman Ludington, son of Nathaniel and Mary “Polly” (Stewart) Ludington,[42] on 9 Jan. 1821 in Cornwall, Litchfield Co., CT.[43] He was born on 3 Jan. 1801 in Herkimer Co., NY.[44] She died, but her burial location is unknown, and he remarried to Irena M. (___),[45] by whom he had children. She was born on 7 Jan. 1808 in NY.[46] He died on 19 Mar. 1864 in Phillipsport, Sullivan Co., NY, aged 63 years,[47] and Irena M. Ludington died on 23 Jan. 1877 in Phillipsport, NY, aged 69 years,[48] and they were both buried in Poplar Grove Cemetery in Phillipsport, Sullivan Co., NY.
4547 iii Milton7 Lewis Edson, born on 26 Dec. 1804 in New York, NY,[49] married Eliza Jane Hasbrouck, daughter of Daniel Elias and Phebe (Griffin) Hasbrouck, on 19 June 1829 in Woodstock, NY,[50] and they moved to Vincennes, Knox Co., IN.[51] She was born on 16 Jan. 1810 in Woodstock, Ulster Co., NY.[52] They were living in Knox Co., IN, in the 1840 federal census,[53] in Vincennes, Knox Co., IN, the 1850 federal census, where he was in the grocery business,[54] and in Vincennes, IN, in the 1860 federal census, where he was a merchant,[55] and the 1870 federal census, where he was a retired merchant.[56] He supposedly died on 21 Aug. 1879 in Vincennes, IN,[57] but his burial location is unknown. She was still living in Vincennes, IN, in the 1880 federal census, with her two of her daughters,[58] and she died on 4 June 1890, aged 80 years,[59] and was buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in Vincennes, Knox Co., IN. They supposedly had children:[60]
a. Elizabeth8 Jane Edson, born on 28 Aug. 1831 in Woodstock, Ulster Co., NY,[61] was still unmarried and living with her parents in Vincennes, IN, in the 1860 federal census,[62] married David McCracken, son of George and Phoebe (Hayden) McCracken,[63] on 15 Nov. 1860 in Knox Co., IN. He was born on 8 Jan. 1835 in Millbury, Worcester Co., MA,[64] and he was a painter living with the family of her parents in Vincennes, IN, in the 1860 federal census.[65] They were living in Jacksonville, Morgan Co., IL, in the 1870,[66] and 1880 federal censuses,[67] where he was a house painter, and in Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., CA, in the 1900 federal census, where he was a paper hanger.[68] She died on 21 Aug. 1905 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., CA, aged 73 years,[69] and he died on 19 Sept. 1911 in Fresno, Fresno Co., CA, aged 76 years,[70] and they were both buried in Angelus Rosedale Cemetery in Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., CA.
b. Amelia/Aurelia M. Edson, born on 20 Apr. 1833 in NY, died on 21 June 1854 in Vincennes, IN,[71] presumably unmarried, but her burial location is unknown.
c. Phebe Clarissa Edson, born ca. 1835 in NY,[72] probably never married. She was still unmarried and living with her parents in Vincennes, IN, in the 1860,[73] and 1870 federal censuses,[74] and with her widowed mother in Vincennes, IN, in the 1880 federal census,[75] but she was not found in the 1900 federal census, and no death or burial record was found for her.
d. Lewis V. Edson, born ca. 1836, died young, but his burial location is unknown.
e. Milton L. Edson (Jr.), born on 23 Sept. 1837 in Richmond, Wayne Co., IN, died on 25 Oct. 1849 in Vincennes, IN, aged 12 years, 1 month, 12 days,[76] and was buried in Upper Indiana Cemetery in Bruceville, Knox Co., IN.
f. Emaline M. Edson, born on 22 Jan. 1839 in Richmond, IN, died on 24 Sept. 1841 in Vincennes, IN,[77] but her burial location is unknown.
g. William8 Smith Edson, born in 1838 in IN,[78] married Susanna “Susan” Alzora de Richardville,[79] daughter of Pierre Derouet and Susanne (Boyer) de Richardville,[80] on 11 Aug. 1862 in Vincennes, IN.[81] She was born on 22 Jan. 1842 in Vincennes, IN.[82] They were living in Vincennes, Knox Co., IN, in the 1870,[83] and 1880 federal censuses,[84] where he was a house painter. He died on 11 Nov. 1881 in Vincennes, Knox Co., IN,[85] and was buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in Vincennes, Knox Co., IN. She died a widow on 10 Jan. 1922 in Vincennes, IN, aged 79 years, 11 months, 18 days, of “acute myocarditis,”[86] and was buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Vincennes, IN.
h. Olive Eliza Edson, born ca. 1845 in IN,[87] never married. She was still unmarried and living with her parents in Vincennes, IN, in the 1870 federal census,[88] and with her widowed mother in Vincennes, IN, in the 1880 federal census.[89] She supposedly died on 14 June 1884 in Vincennes, IN,[90] and was buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in Vincennes, IN.
i. Hiram Edson, born ca. 1848 in IN, died in Aug. 1849 in Vincennes, IN,[91] but his burial location is unknown.
j. Lewis8 V. Edson, born ca. 1851 in Vincennes, IN,[92] married Mary Jane Andrews on 13 Apr. 1877 in Vincennes, IN.[93] She was born ca. 1857 in IN.[94] They were living in Richland, Greene Co., IN, in the 1880 federal census, where he was a miner,[95] and in Vincennes, Knox Co., IN, in the 1900 federal census, where he was a painter.[96] He died on 14 Apr. 1907 in Vincennes, IN, aged 60 years, 7 months, 6 days, of “suicide from overdose morphine,”[97] and was buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in Vincennes, IN. No death or burial record was found for her.

Edson, born on 27 May 1811 in Richmond Co., Staten Island, NY,[98] but he does not appear to be part of his father’s family in Woodstock, NY, in the 1830 federal census, married Catharine Short,[99] daughter of Peter and Alida (Edwards) Short.[100] She was born in 1804 in Ulster Co., NY.[101] They were living in Lexington, Greene Co., NY, in the 1850 federal census, where he had a sawmill,[102] in Middletown, Delaware Co., NY, in the 1855 state census, where he was a carpenter,[103] the 1860 federal census, where he was a wagon maker,[104] the 1865 state census,[105] and the 1870 federal census,[106] where he was a carpenter. She died on 26 Dec. 1873 in Margaretville, Delaware Co., NY, aged 69 years, 2 months, 15 days.[107] He was boarding with John C. and Eliza N. Osterhoudt in Middletown, Delaware Co., NY, in the 1875 state census,[108] He died on 23 Feb. 1898 in Margaretville, aged 86 years,[109] and they were both buried in Margaretville Cemetery in Margaretville, Delaware Co., NY. They had children:
a. Henry Edson, born ca. 1827 in Ulster Co., NY, was still unmarried and living with his parents in Middletown, Delaware Co., NY, in the 1855 state census,[110] and the 1860 federal census,[111] where he was a teamster, married Kata (___) in ca. 1868. She was born ca. 1846 in Prussia.[112] They were living in Middletown, Delaware Co., NY, in the 1870 federal census, where he was driving a team,[113] but he was not found in the 1875 state census or the 1880 federal census in Delaware Co., NY. No death or burial record was found for him.
b. Selucia Edson, born ca. 1830 in NY,[114] marriage not found.
c. Samuel C. Edson, born ca. 1832 in Ulster Co., NY,[115] was still unmarried and living with his parents in Middletown, Delaware Co., NY, in the 1855 state census,[116] listed as “Alexander” Edson in the 1860 federal census,[117] and was a stage driver still living with his parents in Middletown, NY, in the 1865 state census,[118] but he was not found in the 1870 federal census or the 1875 state census. No death or burial record was found for him.
d. Eliza Edson, born ca. 1833 in NY,[119] not listed in her parents’ household in the 1855 state census, but she was still unmarried and living with her parents in Middletown, Delaware Co., NY, in the 1860 federal census,[120] marriage not found. No death or burial record was found for her.
e. Sophia Edson, born ca. 1836 in Greene Co., NY,[121] was still unmarried and living with her parents in Middletown, Delaware Co., NY, in the 1860 federal census,[122] the 1865 state census,[123] and the 1870 federal census,[124] marriage not found. No death or burial record was found for her.
f. William Edwin Edson, born on 8 Feb. 1839 in Hunter, Greene Co., NY,[125] married Mary Ann Anthony, daughter of Charles E. and Margaret (Cashdollar) Anthony,[126] in 1860.[127] She was born on 8 Nov. 1840 in Bovina, Delaware Co., NY.[128] He was listed in his parents’ household in the 1865 state census as being married, but in the army,[129] while she was also listed as being married, but living with her parents in Middletown, NY, in the 1865 state census.[130] He served as a Private in the 8th Independent Battery of Light Artillery during the Civil War, and was mustered out on 30 June 1865,[131] but apparently he never made it home. She remarried to George Ostrander in 1868.[132] He was born ca. 1838,[133] and served in Company I, the 72nd New York Volunteer Regiment during the Civil War.[134] They were not found in the 1870 federal census, but they were living in Sidney, Delaware Co., NY, in the 1875 state census, where he was a farm laborer.[135] He died on 18 May 1889 in Sidney, Delaware Co., NY, aged 51 years,[136] and was buried in East Sidney Cemetery in Delaware Co., NY. She died on 20 June 1923 in Walton, Delaware Co., NY, aged 82 years,[137] and was buried in Ouleout Valley Cemetery in Franklin, Delaware Co., NY.
g. Alvin B. Edson, born in 1843 in Greene Co., NY,[138] was still single and listed in his parents’ household in Middletown, Delaware Co., NY, in the 1865 state census, as being in the army,[139] served as a Corporal in Company G, the 144th New York Regiment during the Civil War.[140] He was still unmarried and back living with his parents in Middletown, NY, in the 1870 federal census, a carpenter,[141] married Jennie M. (___) in ca. 1870.[142] She was born ca. 1845 in Delaware Co., NY. They were living in Middletown, Delaware Co., NY, in the 1875 state census,[143] and in Margaretville, Delaware Co., NY, in the 1880 federal census,[144] where he was a carpenter. He died on 15 Aug. 1891 in Margaretville, NY, aged 48 years,[145] and was buried in Margaretville Cemetery in Margaretville, Delaware Co., NY. No death or burial record was found for her.
